Privacy Policy
SenteCheck is a personal mobile-money accounting app for Uganda. This policy explains, in plain language, what SenteCheck does and does not do with your information. The short version: your data never leaves your phone.
1. Who is responsible
SenteCheck is developed by an independent developer based in Uganda. Because the app has no servers and receives no data from you, the developer never holds, sees, or processes your personal information. You remain in control of it on your own device at all times.
2. What SenteCheck reads
SenteCheck reads Mobile Money SMS messages from MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda only, filtered by keywords such as "UGX" and "MoMo". It uses these to detect transactions (money sent and received, merchant payments, withdrawals, fees and taxes, airtime, data and voice bundles, and loans such as MoKash, Wewole, and MoMo Advance).
SenteCheck does not read your personal messages, contacts' conversations, or any SMS that are not mobile-money notifications.
3. What SenteCheck stores, and where
The transactions it detects — amounts, counterparty names, timestamps, categories, and any notes you add — are stored in a database on your device only. That database is encrypted using SQLCipher (AES-256), and the encryption key is held in the Android Keystore, protected by your device security.
Optionally (a setting you control), the app can also keep the original text of each mobile-money SMS to improve accuracy. This is on by default and can be turned off at any time in Settings.
4. What SenteCheck never does
- It has no internet permission. It cannot connect to the internet, by design.
- There are no servers, no accounts, and no sign-up.
- There is no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking.
- Your data is never transmitted, sold, shared, or backed up to any cloud.
The only third-party software libraries in the app run entirely on your device (for the database, encryption, charts, and interface) and none of them send data anywhere.
5. Your rights and controls
Under Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, and by the design of this app, you have full control of your information:
- Consent: SenteCheck asks for your consent before reading any SMS. The time you consented is recorded on your device.
- Access and portability: you can export all your transactions to a CSV file at any time (Settings → Export). The app warns you that the exported file is unencrypted, so delete it once you no longer need it.
- Retention: you choose how long data is kept (default two years); older records are removed automatically.
- Raw-SMS storage: you can disable storage of original SMS text at any time.
- Deletion: "Delete all my data" in Settings permanently erases the database, all settings, and the encryption key, returning the app to a fresh state.
6. Diagnostics and bug reports
If the app crashes, it may store a technical error log on your device. If you choose to send a bug report, you — and only you — decide to share it, through your phone's normal share options. Any report you send includes your device model, Android version, and error details, but never your transactions, balances, amounts, message contents, or the names of people you transact with.
7. Children
SenteCheck is intended for adults (18+) who use Mobile Money. It is not directed at children.
8. Security
Your data is protected by device-level encryption, an encrypted database, and Android's security features. No system is perfect, and the security of the data also depends on you keeping your device locked and secure. Because nothing is stored off your device, there is no server that can be breached.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be included in a new release of the app and shown here. Material changes will be highlighted.
